It began with a question: "Where are you from?" You’ve heard it a thousand times at networking events, right? And, like most of us, you probably respond on autopilot, spilling out the story of your life like it's a rehearsed script. Me? My story starts in Chicago. By age 12, I was in Los Angeles, weaving through a web of careers that took me to Dallas, then Miami, with a hurricane of experiences along the way. But here's the thing: it’s not just a story—it’s my journey.

This past weekend, in the middle of an event, I felt the pull of something deeper. Juanita—a friend who follows my writing religiously—asked, "When's the next newsletter coming?" I paused. I had written about fire with passion that left me breathless, but air? Air had me stumped. How could I capture the essence of something so elusive, something we can't see, yet rely on every single day?

And then it happened.

The ballroom doors flew open, and a fierce gust of wind surged through. Papers, flyers, and business cards spiraled into the air like confetti from some divine hand. Banners tumbled to the floor, and the room shifted into chaos. It was as if the universe wanted to make its presence known. There I stood, watching everything scatter in a mess of confusion, and my mind flashed back to the storms of life that often seem to blow us off course.

As the papers swirled and the eventually glided to the floor, I took a step forward, instinctively beginning to clean up the wreckage. And in that moment of gathering scattered papers, I realized something profound: for years, some of us are living as if the wind—the unseen currents of life—is pushing us along at its whim. From one milestone to the next, stories are told  as if we have no control, as if we have  been swept up in a tornado and dropped onto some unknown path like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.

But here’s the truth: we are not powerless. We are not leaves drifting aimlessly in the breeze. The wind, though invisible, doesn’t control us. We control how we respond to it. Life, like air, can be a force of chaos or a source of inspiration, but the power to choose how we rise, how we move, how we soar—that’s ours.

The choice-

Are you the inflatable tube person, outside of a used car lot helplessly flailing about in the wind, moving wherever it blows? Or are you the eagle, using the force of the air to elevate yourself, to rise above the noise and see the bigger picture? Because that’s the choice life gives us every single day. The wind will blow—sometimes gently, sometimes fiercely—but how we harness its power determines whether we’re lost in the storm or flying above it.

In that ballroom, I didn’t just see scattered papers. I saw the pieces of our journey. I saw the moments where some have allowed circumstances to dictate their path, where some believed they have been dropped into unfamiliar territory without a map. But I also realized something beautiful: the wind doesn’t have to be destructive. It can be the very thing that lifts us higher, that gives us perspective, that opens our wings and helps us soar.

And isn’t that the lesson we learn from the timeless story of The Wizard of Oz? That everything we need is already within us? Dorothy didn’t need the Wizard to get home. She had the power all along. And so do we.

The air, though invisible, is full of potential. It’s not just something that blows around us; it’s something that moves within us. It carries our breath, our intentions, our prayers. It lifts our spirits when we let go of fear and embrace faith. The spiritual force of air is not just in the wind outside—it’s in the stillness within. It’s that quiet whisper reminding you that you’re capable, that you’re strong, that you’re guided even when you can’t see the way forward.

Life can be overwhelming. The winds of change can feel violent at times, knocking us off course, shaking us to our core. But when we stop seeing ourselves as victims of the storm, when we realize that we are co-creators of our journey, the air becomes something else entirely. It becomes the breath of life, the force that carries us forward, that lifts us above the clouds where we can see the horizon more clearly.

So, I ask you—are you ready to soar? Are you ready to spread your wings and trust that the air will hold you up? Because the truth is, you already have everything you need inside you. You have the power to harness the wind, to rise above the chaos, to chart your own path through the sky.

The next time you feel life pushing you off balance, remember this: the air is not your enemy. It is the very thing that enables you to fly. It is the force that gives you lift, that helps you see farther than you ever thought possible. The storms will come, but they are not meant to destroy you—they are meant to elevate you.

In the end, the air reminds us of our deepest truth: we are never just drifting. We are always being guided, lifted, and supported by something greater than ourselves. So take a deep breath, spread your wings, and rise. Everything you need to navigate this life is already within you. The wind is yours to master—now soar.
