Every single time this happens the same people lose and the same people win. That is not a coincidence. That is a system. And it has been running on schedule for decades.
Small businesses collapsed during Covid.
Hundreds of thousands of them. Restaurants. Salons. Gyms. Family operations built over 20 and 30 years. Gone in months. The people who owned them lost everything. Their savings. Their credit. Their identity. Including me. Meanwhile Amazon recorded its most profitable years in company history. Billionaires added tens of billions to their net worth during the same period working people were filing for unemployment. Standing in food lines. Watching everything they built disappear. That was not luck. That was the architecture of who this system was actually built to protect.
But this did not start in 2020. This is a scheduled event.
The savings and loan crisis of the 1980s. Working families lost homes. Small investors wiped out. The wealthy restructured and came out ahead. The dot com bubble in 2000. Regular people who finally got access to investing lost retirement savings chasing a market the insiders already knew was collapsing. They sold before the fall. We held on and watched it burn. Then 2008. Then 2010. The housing market took everything that was left.
2010 is when most of us felt the full weight of it.
Homes foreclosed. Jobs eliminated. Entire neighborhoods hollowed out overnight. We lost what took us 20 years to build in about 18 months. Then we bailed out the banks. With our money. Our taxes. Our sacrifice handed directly to the institutions that created the collapse in the first place. Those same banks took that bailout and foreclosed on our homes anyway. They did not forgive one mortgage. Not one. They cashed our check and handed us an eviction notice. Nobody went to jail. Nobody gave anything back. Nobody even said sorry. The people who caused the destruction were rescued by the people who suffered it.
The wealthy got wealthier. We started over. Again.
We were told to be resilient. We were. We clawed back. We rebuilt. We started to breathe again. Then 2020 hit and the clock struck midnight right on schedule. A global pandemic wiped out small businesses before we could process what was happening. Small business owners were told to apply for loans with almost no real chance of approval. Corporations received billions before the applications were even processed. Working people got a $1,200 check. One time. One time. Billionaires gained trillions. Same collapse. Same sides. Same result. Every single time.
Now it is 2026 and we are watching it happen again. Right now. Live.
Spirit Airlines gone after 34 years. Mass layoffs hitting 17,000 people at a time. An economy wobbling under decisions made by people who will never feel the weight of a single one of them. Fuel prices doubled because of a war nobody voted for. A war we are funding every single day. On top of billions sent overseas. On top of money flowing to foreign governments. On top of farmer bailouts for tariff damage the same administration created with their own hands. Every dollar came from us. From the people who can least afford to lose it.
Here is what that money could have built instead.
A healthcare system where a diagnosis does not also mean a bankruptcy filing. Social Security benefits a person can actually live on after 40 years of contributions. Wages that mean something. An education system where teachers are not buying their own supplies while billionaires debate what children are allowed to learn. Instead we are monitoring mothers on SNAP benefits to make sure they do not buy a birthday cake for their child. That is where we decided to focus our energy. Audit the birthday cake. Fund the war. That is the priority of this system.
3 collapses. 3 decades. Same people standing when the smoke clears.
The wealth does not disappear. It transfers. Every time. It moves upward while we are distracted by the chaos that was manufactured specifically to move it. Then the cycle resets. We start over with nothing. We are told to save more. Plan better. Work harder. Be more resilient. We are told this by people who have never rebuilt from zero. Who have never chosen between a bill and a meal. Who have never watched something they spent years building vanish in a matter of weeks and then been asked why they did not plan for it.
How do you plan for this.
Somebody answer that for me. How do you plan for a war that doubles your fuel costs. How do you plan for a pandemic that shuts down your industry. How do you plan for a government that uses your tax dollars to bail out the banks that then take your house. What spreadsheet covers that. What savings account is big enough. What coach. What course. What morning routine prepares you for a controlled demolition that runs on a 10 year cycle and has been running your entire adult life.
Which brings me to the coaches.
17,000 people lost their jobs this month. Not this year. This month. They are flooding your industry right now. Sitting in the same interviews you are sitting in. Competing for the same shrinking pool of opportunity inside an economy that is actively contracting. Right in the middle of all of that there are people on LinkedIn selling resume optimization courses. Financial coaches charging for budgeting sessions inside a system where wages have not meaningfully moved in a decade. Career coaches telling displaced executives to work on their personal brand while the foundation beneath all of us is cracking in real time. How do you coach someone through a controlled demolition. I really want to know. Because that is not coaching. That is a performance.
People say LinkedIn is not the place for politics.
LinkedIn is folding with career loss right now. Today. This feed is full of it. Politics is the reason your industry is shrinking. Politics got us here in 2010. Politics got us here in 2020. Politics is dismantling us again right now in 2026 and if you refuse to connect those dots you will spend the next decade being shocked by something that was entirely predictable. Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it. We have repeated it 3 times. The only people who cannot survive another repeat are us.
The plan was never the problem.
We are not behind because we failed. We are behind because every time we get ahead the same machinery resets and takes it. Every time. On schedule. And the same people who built the conditions for the collapse are on television right now explaining why it is your fault. Telling you to be more resilient. Telling you to plan better. Selling you a course on how to survive the thing they built.
One of us is a fool for pretending this is normal.
It is not me.
