I Don’t Chase Jobs. So Don’t Come at Me Like I’m Desperate.
Let’s get one thing straight—I don’t make a career out of job searching.
I’ve been recruited. I’ve been recommended. I’ve been remembered in rooms I never even entered. So when I say this whole online job search process feels counterintuitive to me, I mean it. I feel like a lion forced to swim with guppies—this isn’t my terrain.
But here I am. And if I’m going to play in these waters, I’m going to do it on my terms—with my head on straight and my resume protected like my social security number.
Because let’s talk about this new breed of recruiters. The ones who slide into your inbox like:
“Hey William, I came across your profile. Looks like you’re open to work. Send me your resume and let’s talk.”
Except they have two connections. No history. No credentials. No professional footprint. And absolutely no business asking me for a damn thing.
You want my resume, my phone number, my address—but you can’t even tell me the industry this “opportunity” is in? You’ve got zero mutuals and a profile that looks like it was built in a dark room with a fake Gmail and a VPN?
Let’s call it what it is: a scam in a suit.
I’m Not Job-Hungry. I’m Purpose-Focused.
I’m not sending out resumes like confetti hoping something sticks. I’m not looking for a gig—I’m building a legacy. So no, I’m not desperate enough to hand over my professional identity to anyone who tosses the word “recruiter” in their headline.
You want my attention? Earn it.
Come correct. Come prepared. Come with details that make sense, that show you’ve actually looked at my experience, and that tell me why this is a career—not just a paycheck.
If you can't tell me:
The role
The industry
The type of team I'd be leading or collaborating with
The culture of the organization
Or why the hell you think this is a match...
Then you're not recruiting—you're fishing.
Here’s How I Shut That Down—Every. Single. Time.
I stopped engaging. I stopped apologizing. I started protecting my professional worth like my life depended on it—because in this economy, it kind of does.
Here’s my vetting blueprint. And no, it’s not a soft checklist. It’s a damn firewall.
1. If you have less than 50 professional connections, we’re done. Two connections? You’re worse off than me. Keep it moving.
2. If your LinkedIn page reads like a ghost town—no activity, no endorsements, no actual work history—I’m out. This isn’t Craigslist.
3. If you ask for my resume but can’t tell me anything about the job—red flag. Transparency is a two-way street.
4. If you pressure me to respond quickly, you just told on yourself. Urgency is a tactic. And I don’t respond to tactics—I respond to strategy.
5. If you say “I can’t reveal the company,” but can’t even share the industry or responsibilities, then you’re not worth my data. I’m not signing up for mystery meat.
6. If your email or message has typos, broken English, or vague buzzwords—bye. You represent a company? Represent like a professional.
7. If you’re using a Gmail or Yahoo address with no company signature—immediate delete. Professionalism has a scent. And this ain’t it.
8. If you can’t answer basic questions like: “Who’s the hiring manager?” or “What does success look like in this role?”—you’re not real. You’re just hoping I won’t ask.
9. If your profile picture is AI-generated or you have no photo at all—you’re hiding something. And I’m not volunteering to find out what.
10. If you get offended when I ask questions? We’re done before we start. This isn’t one-sided. I’m interviewing you, too.
So What’s the Mic Drop?
I don’t show up in this job market begging for scraps. I show up as a seasoned professional who knows their value, who knows the game, and who’s not afraid to walk away from anything that doesn’t smell like alignment.
To the real recruiters doing real work: I see you. I appreciate you. Keep showing up with integrity, insight, and actual opportunities. We need more of you.
But to the scammers, the fakers, the AI-generated profiles fishing for identities— I’m not your target. I’m your alarm system.
And this is your warning: You knock on the wrong digital door, and I’ll slam it so hard, the whole fake office shakes.
Because this isn't just about finding a job— It's about protecting your name, your story, and your next chapter.
And I guard mine like it’s gold.
