ICE ARRESTED A MAYOR, JUDGES. PAY ATTENTION.

This is not a movie. This is not a drill. This is America—right now.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested by ICE agents today, right outside Delaney Hall. Not for committing a crime. Not for stealing. Not for abusing his power. But for protesting. For showing up. For using his voice as an elected leader to demand accountability from the very systems meant to serve the people.

Let that land.

A sitting mayor in the United States of America was handcuffed in broad daylight—by a federal agency—for exercising his constitutional rights. That should stop every conversation, freeze every screen, and shake you to your core. Because when they start arresting mayors, judges, and citizens who dare speak up, it’s no longer about policy. It’s about power. It’s about control. It’s about fear.

This is not about left or right. This is about right and wrong.

You think it's just a protest? Think again. They're not coming for the corrupt. They're coming for the courageous. The people who dare to look the machine in the eye and say, “You don’t own us.”

Why don’t they want you “woke”? Because “woke” means aware. Awake. Eyes wide open. And they would rather you sleep. They’d rather you scroll. They’d rather you stay numb and distracted while they gut democracy in real-time.

This is not isolated. This is not accidental. This is not coincidence.

This is calculated. This is strategic. This is fascism—creeping in while we argue about semantics.

If you’re still unsure whether that word applies, just know: the people who warned us about fascism? They warned us about exactly this. Arresting dissent. Silencing opposition. Normalizing overreach until nothing is left but obedience and fear.

We are on the edge.

I’m nervous. Not because we’re powerless, but because too many of us are still pretending this isn’t happening. Still hoping someone else will fix it. Still thinking that silence keeps us safe.

It doesn’t.

Silence is collaboration. Silence is permission.

So say something. Do something. Show up. Speak up. Because they want you afraid. They want you frozen. They want you too tired to resist. But we’ve seen this before—in textbooks, in documentaries, in the stories of survivors. And we know exactly where this leads.

And we swore we would never let it happen here.
