Dear Mariah,

I know you’re ready. I can feel it in the frosty air every time I pass a Starbucks. Somewhere, deep in the North Pole of pop culture, you’re stretching those vocal cords, warming up for your annual takeover. You’ve been patient—hibernating in that diamond-encrusted igloo of yours since last December—but I’m begging you… please, just one more day.

Let us have Halloween.

We’re Still Dancing with Ghosts, Girl

The pumpkins are still out there fighting for their lives, their candles barely flickering against the storm of early tinsel and peppermint invasion. Kids are still sugar-charged and screaming “Trick or Treat!” like tiny agents of chaos. Grown-ups are still sweeping fake cobwebs off their porches and trying to remember which bills they accidentally paid twice.

It’s the one moment when we all get to take off the “I’m fine” mask and put on one that actually fits. So let us live in the darkness a little longer. We need this collective exorcism—the laughter, the costumes, the permission to be someone else.

And Mariah, no disrespect, but when your voice hits that first note of “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” everything changes. Zombies turn into shoppers. Skeletons start scanning Black Friday deals. Ghosts trade their chains for credit cards. It’s magic… but it’s mayhem.

Just give us twenty-four more hours of cobwebs before the garland goes up, okay?

You’re More Powerful Than You Know

Because here’s the thing, Mariah—you’re not just a singer anymore. You’re a season. You’ve become a feeling, a timestamp, a signal flare that says, “The year is ending, get your act together.”

The moment you defrost, the world shifts. Coffee cups change colors. Department stores panic. Even our moods sync with your whistle tones. You don’t drop an album—you drop the temperature.

But this year, 2025, the world’s tired, Mariah. We’ve had a lot of scary nights that didn’t involve costumes. We’ve been fighting ghosts that don’t come out just once a year—ghosts named burnout, inflation, and “Reply All.”

So maybe, before we rush to jingle all the way, we can breathe. Dance with our demons. Laugh at our fears. Let October finish her spooky soliloquy before you cue the sleigh bells.

The Truth Between the Holidays

Here’s what I know, Queen: the real magic isn’t in the snow or the sparkle—it’s in the shift. That split second between fright and light, when the world softens. When we trade our masks for ugly sweaters, our candy for cocoa, our chaos for community.

You remind us that warmth always wins. That love, somehow, still cuts through the noise.

So we’ll welcome you soon—oh, trust me, the minute those first five piano notes hit, the nation will collectively scream “It’s time!” louder than any horror movie. But for now, let us sit in the shadows a moment longer. Let us finish our story of ghosts before we crown you the angel of the airwaves once again.

Until tomorrow, Mariah. Let the pumpkins have one last dance.

With love (and a little leftover candy corn),

William Rochelle — but you can call me Bill.
