Just another manic Monday, today's news is weighing heavy on my heart. While some topics may be considered taboo to discuss on LinkedIn, it's important to acknowledge that there are times when work takes a backseat to the pressing issues in our world. The recent mass shooting is one of those times.
The emotions I feel are difficult to describe. I feel sadness for the senseless loss of life. I feel anger because it seems like every time we are alerted to a mass shooting, all we can do is offer thoughts and prayers. I'm confused about why military-grade weapons are so easily accessible and why the news felt it necessary to mention the victims' immigration status. I don't understand how someone can be pro-life and pro-gun. I also have empathy for the families who have lost loved ones and for anyone who fears sending their children to school, running an errand, or even opening the wrong car door.
What's most concerning is the fear that this kind of violence will become normalized. It's unsettling to think that we may hear about tragedies like this so often that we become desensitized to it. It's why I'm choosing to speak up, despite the fear that my words may offend someone. I'm not here to criticize gun owners or to debate the Second Amendment. I'm just a concerned citizen who believes that we can do better.
Let's work together to find solutions that keep our communities safe. It's not about politics or ideology; it's about making sure that no one else has to experience the pain and heartache that these families are going through.
Thanks for reading,
William Rochelle, but you can call me Bill.
