Dreams Do Come True, But Not If You Keep Sleeping

We've all heard that cliché: Dreams do come true. However, there's a caveat that a lot of us tend to overlook: dreams don't work unless you do. It's like saying your car can take you anywhere, but not mentioning you need to drive it. Sounds obvious, right? But is it, really?

The "Ah-Ha" Moment that Never Was

Let me take you back to a dinner I had with friends. We were at a restaurant, having a good time, when a friend asked me, “What’s so important that you have to be on your phone?” Now, I wasn’t scrolling through Instagram or replying to tweets; I was checking work emails. But in a moment of levity, I said, “I’m scheduling a show to watch on my VCR.”

Most of you won’t get the humor here. Back in the VCR era, mobile phones weren't the multi-functional, home-managing powerhouses they are today. But imagine if I’d actually taken that whimsical thought seriously. Fast forward to today, and we’re living in an age where your phone can practically run your entire house for you.

See where I’m going with this? I had a flicker of an idea, and someone, somewhere else, had a similar flicker and acted on it. They stopped dreaming and started doing.

 Stop Sleeping On Your Dreams

Now, I get it. Some people are idea factories, churning out the next big thing faster than a coffee machine can brew your morning cup. But here's the kicker: ideas are a dime a dozen. What separates the dreamers from the doers is action. Successful people take the first shaky step toward making their vision a reality. And they don’t stop there. They keep the momentum going, steering their idea through the endless maze until it morphs into a successful venture.

As someone who guides startup founders, I've seen how easy it is to veer off course. New opportunities flash by like bright neon signs, and it's tempting to chase them. My role often involves keeping these visionaries focused. We put new ventures on hold until the original idea is running smoothly. Because focus, my friends, is the beacon that guides you through the fog of 'could-haves' and 'should-haves' to the sunny landscape of 'I did it.'

The Path Forward is Paved With Lessons

Reality check: not every venture will skyrocket to success. But think of your journey as a pathway sprinkled with life lessons. Even if one idea doesn’t pan out, you're better prepared for the next. In the grand tapestry of life, you either succeed or you learn. There's no third outcome. Each step down this path brings you closer to the best version of you.

From Meltdown to Megastar

Take Mariah Carey, for example. Whether you're a fan or not, her story is a lesson in resilience. She faced public humiliation, divorce, and professional setbacks, including the failure of her movie and its soundtrack, Glitter. But she fought back. Today, she's not just a Grammy-winning artist; she's a Christmas queen, raking in big bucks every holiday season. Ask her now, and she'll tell you: she wouldn't change a thing. Because every stumble and fall led her to where she is today.

Your Glory Awaits

When you're in the thick of it, it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But remember, the tunnel ends, and when it does, you’ll step out into the sun, stronger and wiser than before. So, stop dreaming and start doing. As you navigate through the labyrinth of life, remember to reflect on your journey. The process is where the magic happens, where you grow, learn, and prepare yourself for the glory that awaits.

Dreams do come true. But for that to happen, you've got to wake up and get to work. Let your dreams be your blueprint and your actions the construction crew. Start building today.
