We plan births down to the minute. We prepare, we celebrate, we even post about it.
But when it comes to death—something just as inevitable—we pretend we have no say. We let people suffer through long, painful declines, draining their savings and their dignity in the process. And somehow, we call that “care.”
Recently, Switzerland legalized the use of a suicide pod—a technology that allows terminally ill people to end their lives peacefully, legally, and on their own terms. It’s raising eyebrows, and it should. But it’s also raising a question more of us need to answer:
Would you want that option? And would you invest in it?
My answer is yes—on both counts.
I’ve watched strong, brilliant family members slowly deteriorate under terminal illness. I’ve seen the cost of prolonging life when there’s no quality left—physically, emotionally, financially. Hospice care, round-the-clock medication, eventual funeral expenses—it adds up fast. And it all happens while the person themselves loses control over the one thing they still deserve to own: how they leave.
A suicide pod isn’t about giving up. It’s about giving choice. It offers a clear-headed, humane alternative to a system that often forces people to suffer longer than they should. And yes, if designed ethically and regulated properly, it should also be profitable. Real innovation solves real problems—and this one does.
It reduces costs for families. It reduces the burden on broken healthcare systems. And most importantly, it brings dignity back into a part of life we’ve forgotten how to handle with compassion.
We schedule the beginning of life. Maybe it’s time we gave people the option to schedule the end—with peace, control, and the people they love beside them.
If you're in healthcare, innovation, or ethics, I’m genuinely curious:
Would you invest in something like this?
And even more personally—would you want the option for yourself?
Let’s talk.
