I noticed something strange the other day. While I was actively job searching, something else was quietly growing.

Not a side hustle. Not a master plan. Not a pivot I announced to the world. A hobby. I started my podcast in April. That’s when the real work began. Naming it. Structuring it. Showing up consistently without knowing who would listen or if anyone would care. I had technically posted a video before that, but April is when intention showed up and said, let’s go.

Fast forward 8 months. I looked at the last 28 days of growth and just sat there staring. Not because of ego. Because of realization.

This didn’t happen because I had money behind it. It didn’t happen because I had a team. It didn’t happen because I was trying to impress anyone. It happened because I was building while waiting.

Job searching can do funny things to your head. You start questioning your relevance. Your timing. Your worth. You replay conversations. You overthink silence. You wonder if your best chapters are behind you.

Instead of letting that spiral win, I built something that belonged to me. And in the process, something unexpected happened. I didn’t just grow an audience. I healed parts of myself that needed movement, purpose, and momentum.

This is the part hiring managers should pay attention to. If I can do this as a hobby, imagine what I would do inside your business with focus, resources, and alignment. This wasn’t about chasing followers. It was about proving capability in real time. Builders don’t wait for permission. Builders create outcomes.

Yes, I listen to feedback. I always have. But I trust my gut first. Every major win in my career started as an instinct that didn’t make sense to anyone else yet.

Here’s what I know now. Keep applying. Keep interviewing. Keep doing the responsible thing. But don’t waste the in between. What you build while you wait is what separates you from everyone else sending the same resume.

If you build it, they will come. Not because life is fair. Because passion travels. Consistency compounds. And authenticity shows up whether you ask it to or not. This started as a hobby. Now it’s evidence.

And I’m only getting started.
