Maybe you have been here before. You wake up, do the work, send the applications, keep the smile going. Somewhere underneath all of it, a quiet voice asks: how much longer?
That voice is not weakness. It is weight. It deserves to be spoken out loud.
Three men sat down with me on YOU BE YOU LIVE recently and spoke it. Jake. Aaron Tittsworth. Chason Forehand. Three different stories. But if you have ever had to rebuild something after life knocked it over, all three of them were talking directly to you.
When the rules change and nobody tells you
You did everything right. Worked hard. Built the resume. Showed up. Somewhere along the way the market shifted and left you standing in a system that no longer works the way it used to.
Jake did not pretend that is not happening. He sat in the truth of it with us. The old way of applying and waiting is gone. Experience still matters, but how you carry that experience into a room that has changed around you has to evolve too.
Your value did not disappear. Your strategy just needs to catch up with the moment you are actually in.
That is not a criticism. That is a door opening. Jake reminded us that resilience in a changing market is not about starting over from scratch. It is about refusing to let a broken system have the final word on what you are worth.
He knows the system from the inside. He has also been on the other side of it.
Aaron understands recruiting. He knows what happens to your resume inside an applicant tracking system. He knows the frustration of the process from the employer's side.
But Aaron has also been in transition himself. That matters. Because when he looks at someone sending out applications into silence, he is not looking at a case study. He is looking at a version of himself.
Every unanswered application is a small act of courage. You went again. That counts.
He said something simple that has not left me: you go through what you grow through. Not because suffering is a gift. But because the version of you that keeps showing up despite the silence is being built into something the silence cannot touch.
If you have rewritten your resume more times than you can count, updated your profile at midnight, reached out one more time when everything in you wanted to stop, Aaron was speaking to you.
Pain did not get the final word
Chason's story moved through trauma, homelessness, addiction, and recovery. He did not come on the show to be applauded for surviving. He came because what he lived through became something bigger than himself.
That is the part that stays with me. Not the darkness, as real as it was. What stays is what he chose to do with it. He took the chapters that could have defined him and turned them into a foundation for helping someone else stand up.
Your hardest chapter is not disqualifying you. It might be exactly what qualifies you for what comes next.
He talked about the difference between being an ally and becoming an accomplice. An ally cares. An accomplice steps into the gap. Chason stepped in. Through Transformation Kitchen, he is still stepping in every day.
If you have ever felt like your past makes you less hireable, less worthy, less visible, Chason was speaking to you.
Here is the thing about resilience
It does not always look like strength. Sometimes it looks like applying again after the last no. Sometimes it looks like updating your profile at 11 PM when everyone else is asleep. Sometimes it looks like telling the truth in a room where silence would have been easier. Sometimes it looks like staying clean one more day.
Jake, Aaron, and Chason each showed a different face of it. The professional rebuilding in a market that moved on him. The recruiter who remembers what it feels like to be on the other side. The survivor who turned his lowest point into his life's work.
They are all the same story underneath. You are still here. You are still trying. That is not small. That is everything.
You are not finished. You are midchapter. The best chapters rarely start easy.
To Jake, Aaron Tittsworth, and Chason Forehand: thank you for trusting the conversation enough to bring your whole selves. Someone reading this needed exactly what you said.
