I have to take life one minute at a time because one day at a time is too much for me. That is not a poetic opening. That is a survival statement.

We are three days into January, and within those three days my healthcare has become unaffordable, my bills are unpaid, the job market continues to shrink, and the weight of uncertainty has hit all at once. That convergence is what scared me. Not one thing. Everything. All at the same time.

This is not normal. And naming that matters. Systematically, logically, historically, I should have a job. I have the experience. The results. The track record. The reason I am unemployed is not because I chose this. It is because the landscape changed. Jobs were reduced. Eliminated. Paused. Entire pathways disappeared. And when people ask why I am here, the answer is simple. This is happening to a lot of capable people, whether we talk about it or not.

Now here is where the story shifts.

Because despite all of this, I woke up today, Sunday morning, facing a different truth. A quieter truth. A stronger one.

Rewiring my mind. Rewiring my thoughts. Remembering who I am and what I have already accomplished is far greater than any fear trying to take over right now.

Yes, I am still taking life minute by minute. That part has not changed. But minute by minute, I am also reminding myself of who I am.

I am reminding myself that much of what is happening is out of my control in this moment. And that is not a personal failure. But I still have a voice. I still have presence. I can still stand up. I can still speak truth. And I can still choose how I meet this moment.

When I look back at my life honestly, I see something important. My life has changed significantly for the better at many points that once felt impossible. At moments when I was stretched. Pulled. Unsure. Afraid.

This is one of those moments.

And when transition is happening for the better, it does not feel calm. It feels uncomfortable. It feels like being pulled forward before your footing is solid. But stretched does not mean broken.

We are not going to break.

That is my message to you on this Sunday morning in America. One love. One gratitude. One unity.

Let these first three days be a wake up call. A reminder that we cannot sleep through what is happening around us or within us. We keep moving forward. With awareness. With compassion. With love. With peace.

My name is William Rochelle, but you can call me Bill.
