He didn’t know when it started, that quiet suspicion that reality had slipped sideways. Not dramatically. Not with thunder. Just enough to make him question whether what he was experiencing was real or some long running psychological experiment disguised as a job search. He sat alone with his laptop glowing back at him, the cursor blinking like a metronome counting down patience he no longer had.
At first it looked harmless, almost professional. Create a profile. Upload a resume. Answer the same questions he had answered for decades, only now worded slightly differently, as if novelty could disguise redundancy. He gave them the best version of himself. Not the tired one. Not the scared one. The capable one. The proven one. Then he clicked submit and watched it vanish into silence, followed immediately by an auto reply that confirmed what he already knew. No human had seen a thing.
That was when the confusion crept in, subtle but persistent. People kept saying there were jobs everywhere. Helpful strangers sent links asking him to confirm interest. No names. No context. Just a click. It felt wrong. Not illegal wrong. Intuitively wrong. Like shaking hands with someone who never shows their face.
Then came the opportunities, or what passed for them. Own your own business. Be your own boss. All it takes is you and 500 friends who also need jobs. He laughed out loud, the kind of laugh that carries equal parts humor and fatigue. Somewhere between desperation and delusion, the sales pitches kept coming, each one more detached from reality than the last.
And then the noise began, relentless and invasive. The phone rang with promises of pre approved money he never asked for. Blocked numbers returned like ghosts. Emails multiplied overnight, filling every corner of his inbox with schemes, spam, and empty language pretending to be hope. He learned to read between the lines. He had two emails for a reason. If they contacted the wrong one, they never read his resume. Not once. Not ever.
Still, he tried, because that is what responsible people do. He crafted messages carefully. Three hundred characters or less. Confident but restrained. Human but efficient. He reached out directly to hiring managers, referencing roles, experience, relevance. He applied the easy way. He applied the hard way. He followed companies. He waited. Nothing came back. Just silence so loud it felt intentional.
That was the moment it clicked, this wasn’t just rejection. This was disorientation. Headlines screamed that no one wanted to work while job boards overflowed with roles that led nowhere. Truth and contradiction lived side by side, and anyone caught in the middle was told to smile and keep clicking.
So he stopped chasing clarity, and did something far more difficult. He stood still. He protected his mental health. He gave himself grace. He focused on what he could control when everything else felt upside down. Because this wasn’t a life sentence. It was a moment. A strange, chaotic, temporary moment where right and wrong traded places and certainty felt like a luxury.
In that tension, he found something solid. His truth. His power. He remembered that strength does not need permission and confidence does not require validation. He reminded himself that his purpose was not to shrink just because the system was broken.
And from that place, something shifted. He wasn’t here to beg. He was here to uplift. Not performatively. Not as branding. But from a deep, grounded understanding that people rise faster when they rise together. That unity is not a slogan. It is survival.
So he kept going, not blindly, not bitterly, but deliberately. Head up. Spine straight. Fire intact. Because even in the quiet, even in the waiting, even in the confusion, he knew who he was.
And that, no algorithm could erase.
Much love. Tell me how your job search is really going.
